Monday, January 05, 1998 Bloomfield, CT - January 5, 1998 -- Great Western Chemical Company has selected ShipperPlus® Version 6 for Windows, a sophisticated logistics package for order consolidation, rating, loadbuilding, carrier selection and analysis from Prophesy Transportation Software, Inc., for installation at their Portland, OR, headquarters. According to Kevin L. Pasternack, Manager Midwest Sales for Prophesy, Great Western will run ShipperPlus on a Windows NT platform. Implementation of the program will begin immediately.
ShipperPlus is designed to build multi-stop truckloads from LTL shipments, while at the same time rating shipments for lowest cost carrier, lane assigned carrier, or customer-preferred carrier. The system also lets users identify pool points and provides them with complete rating from origin to destination.
The PC-based system interfaces with all platforms, both for downloading data and for sending data to accounting, dispatch, or other user-definable areas. EDI and fax interfaces let the user track shipments in transit and increase customer service by notifying them when a delivery will be made.
ShipperPlus Version 6 for Windows includes an intuitive graphical user interface that presents shipments, loads, orders, and goods in an easily navigated hierarchy, as well as on a leading edge mapping interface. The enhanced graphical display of stops, pickups, depots, customers and routes is completely interactive - stops and pickups can be added or removed from routes, and re-rating of all modified loads is readily available. The display also allows for the modification of pool shipments. "What if" scenarios are made easier, since the display screen is completely integrated with all tables and rating modules. The product allows modification of shipments on the map, with integrated rating and pooling of LTL and TL-eligible shipments. The integrated database and mapping provides a review of the status of selected shipments, so that the impact of decisions on cost and customer satisfaction can be seen instantly.
The software also uses an advanced loadbuilding algorithm that factors costs, customer concerns, and scarce resources into its solutions, so that the loads built are both economical and efficient, a key concern in today's competitive distribution environment.
Great Western's purchase includes the optional multi pick-multi drop module and the DOT HazMat segregation module.
The multi pick-multi drop option functions on two basic levels. Initially, users have the option of combining orders originating from multiple origins and traveling to a common destination into shipments. Users may select the actual rating origin of such shipments using parameters such as lowest mileage, defined preference, etc. On the second level, users may build truckloads with multiple points of origin by assembling pickups in a defined area and scheduling truckload deliveries based on those pickups. Users may zone origins to allow easy selection of related origins and to restrict origins which it is not desirable to combine. Once shipments and loads have been built, users may individually override and re-optimize initial pickup and rating points for individual records.
With the DOT HazMat segregation module, orders will be checked for compatibility and placement under the DOT HazMat rules before being combined into shipments or full or multi-stop truckloads.
